Anyone whos REALLY familiar with TPI's Please come inside!!!!!
Im sort of on a crisis right now, I bought this junked TPI off of a firebird, the idiot junkyard guy told me it was a 91' i notice a couple of things like a mass air flow system on it so i figured its from 85-89, Till now i've figured out what type of TPI it is, Its either an 87' or 88'. What are the differences on the 87' and 88', i need a oil tube dipstick and on all catalogs they sell them seperate for 87' or 88'??????/help me
all the TPIs i ever saw didn't have any oil in them

If I remember all 85-89 T.P.I's
should be the same.Did you get
the wiring for the tpi for the
same place? As far as dip stick
goes aks if you could see the car
if you tell them what your trying
to do the may let you in the yard.
Some parts have dates on them .I
don't know if the tpi will, but hey
it's worth a look.It's a good idea
to write down everything you need
to findout so you wont forget anything
your looking for.
Good Luck

The early MAF TPIs are definitely NOT the same. There were significant differences from year to year dealing with the type of MAF sensor, ECM type, whether it used a 9th injector, etc.
The TPI type has nothing to do with what dipstick the engine takes to my knowlege. That's purely dependent on the vintage of the block.
Not sure the exact differences between 87 and 88 TPI but I would check to see if the 88 has a 9th injector (I know an 87 does) and the 88 engine uses a full serpentine front accessory setup versus the 87's serp + v-belts nightmare. ECMs are the same, though, I beleive between those years. Dipstick on an 87 block is on the passenger side and the dipstick goes into the BLOCK, but down low, almost at the oil pan rail level. 88 I can't remember- been too long.
Hope that helps but don't know if it does.

They droped the 9th injector
in 90 when they switched to speed
density there are a few things changed
from 85-89 but not many.
