weird problemss after engine swap please help

I installed a new GM crate 350 motor in my 91z28 and used all my old tpi stuff. the motor was complete already except for a intake I am trying to set timing but when I disconnect the brown wire to set timing, the car dies. also when wire is connected, the car has lopy idle. If i check the timing mark with the connector connected, it moves between 3 and 10 degrees.
another problem is smoke coming from oil dipstick, if i pull the PCV valve then smoke comes pouring from the valve cover, what could this be. please help i have more tiny problems but i need these fixed right now

The timing is easy. Advance the distributor until the car stops dieing! Smoke pouring out of the valve cover is BAD! That could indicate bad rings!!

i cant have bad rings the motor has about 5 miles on it. it is a GM crate motor. all I did was put my tpi setup on it.

You don't have bad rings, they just aren't seated yet.
