500 hp, all motor

Hi guys, I'm new to the board and just recently bought a thirdgen. I am wondering what BB motor options I have that will fit (13's just aren't doing it for me). Is this possible, or should I stick with the small block. I have about $5,500 to work with and am looking for about 500hp before a shot. Thanks.

Why not look at a built 406? Or the Motown 415 short block.

$5500 for 500hp. That would not be a problem at all, depending on what parts you already have. On a 350 SBC, it would be easy. I have a collection at home of tested engine build sheets for different hp levels. I don't have exact part numbers in front of me, but it runs along the lines of:
Roller cam-$500 and lifters
AFR heads-$1300
Intake- $250
Carb- $500
Rbld. kit-$600 incld. pistons
Mchn. wrk-$800 blk, swapping pstns,
Rods- $500
Crank- $400
---------------
$4850--This of coarse depends on if you want forged parts. Rods, Pistons, and crank may or may not be as much. This also leaves $650 for misc. parts. If you are into searching for the best cost, and time is not a big issue, these can be had for cheaper.

Let's see, BB = Big block then simple math is

BB + $5500 = 500hp no problem. Just depends on if you want it streetable and of course what you define as streetable.

I make 500hp/520lbft with my 427bbc on 87 octane, 9:1 compression, factory iron heads, dual plane intake, vac carb etc.... and it's very streetable. The only time the motor gets touched is to set the valve lash once a year. In fact, for $5500, my motor just might be for sale The specs are on my page.

With a very mild 2400 converter, it just went 7.76 @ 94 mph (1/8 mile) with 1.72 60ft.

PS Where do you run that Nova? I don't recall seeing any 8.4x Novas around this area.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES, it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. I currently have 4.10 gear sets and new series 3 carriers in stock for 9 bolts )

I love the look of a BB in a 3gen. I don't know that I would like the extra hassle. Was it hard to fit that 427 in that car? Just curious.

Hey, hey, hey. He didn't mention suspension mods with the $5500!!! . Well, if you need suspension mods with that, you just cut down on the propensity of the 500hp, $5500 motor.

Hey Qwktrp,

Have you run that thing yet? dyno or track?

Did you build it yourself or buy it that way? Do you have a page with the specs on it?

Like stated above, he only asked about 500hp with $5500, nothing about drivetrain/chassis/suspension work. And with a big block, it's no problem!
