Anyone done this motor combo yet?
Hey guys, I recently got challenged to a Pink slips race with an older Mercury Capri that has a built 302 "claiming" over 300 hp. It has a 600cfm Vacuum secondaries carb sitting on top of it. Read into that as much as you would like to. Anyway, with the advent of the Holley Stealth Ram and the amazing power gains people see with them, I was wondering whether or not anyone has attached one of these gems to a motor equipped with some Aluminum AFR 2.02/1.60 heads and a bottom end resembling mine. I was thinking about AFR 190 or 195's ( Although I thought I heard one of these 2 aren't made anymore, I am unsure. ) attached to my bottom end and having the Stealth Ram atop. What do you guys think the gains would be with this combo. I was honestly thinking in the neighborhood of around 75 crank horsepower or more.

I think You'd still be in trouble. Never race for titles if you gotta ask if you'll win or not. A top fuel dragster can claim over 300 HP too. It's not a lie and you may be a sucker being strung along. it would really suck if you modded you car even more and lost all those new pieces.

I agree your foolish to think about racing for titles. Just tell him cash if you really want it to be worth something. If he's willing to put his car up against you just like that, there's a good chance it'll run better than you think. A guy at my work has a four door 64 AMC rambler with a trailer hitch on it. He just tells everyone it's a small block chevy runs on pumped gas and has no nitrous. It recently ran a 9.80 at 138. Don't believe what everyone tells you.

I just told myself that no matter what the cost I wasn't gonna let some guy insult me and make fun of my car and then challenge me to race for pinks and then actually win.... Hell I was gonna Stealth Ram it AFR Head it and Powerdyne it :hail:
THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SICK. My 10 second Iroc that runs on 93 octane
would have passed that car so fast the doors and windshield would have been sucked off
Oh well.... It was just a dream.
Really though a Stealth Ram, AFR heads and a bit bigger cam would have gotten me to 12's right?

I'm building a simular setup right now. 383 with TPIS base, SLP runners (all except 3" of the center divider removed), ported plenum, 218/224 .495"/.502" 112* cam, AFR 190 heads (64cc), 1 5/8" Hedman shorty headers, 3 1/2 sidepipes.
Since I just ordered and received my AFR heads I can explain the 190/195 like they did to me. They still make both the 190's & 195's. Both flow almost the same. The 195's fit the bigger ports like the Edelbrock Victor Jr. and Edelbrock Pro-Flo intakes. My TPIS base was better suited to the smaller ports of the 190 heads. I've seen the flow charts of both heads and there wasn't more than 5 cfm differance between the two heads at any specific lift points.

Hmm, sounds like one of my old 82's... LOL Seriously tho it doesnt take much work to get an ol Fox chassis to move, my old 82 had a lightly worked 302, erson cam, dual plane intake and a 600 holley, headers, duals, 373's and would pull lows 14's with a 4 speed stick. Better traction would have probibly into the high 13's. Better be careful, if this dude is so confident, there maybe more "hidden" power. cheers, Bob
