There are many, many posts on these boards on this topic.

The best way to go about it is to get a V-8 car that is being taken off the road for whatever reason (mine was severely rear ended). The closer it is to your year, the better.

To be really frank, the driveshaft is the least of the parts you need. You may actually be able to use the one you currently have, depending upon the transmission you use (and you'll need a V-8 transmission). Just the stuff under the hood is a long list. I've given that list in several posts in the past.

To be even more frank, unless you get a really, really good deal on the parts car, and you're willing to spend a LOT of time doing this job, you're better off selling your V-6 car and using the money towards a factory V-8 car.

Do me a favor...email Mike (mikesnow@mw.sisna.com)... I sent him a bunch of info regarding this swap, if you could ask him for a copy, it would save me a lot of time re-writing it. Otherwise check the archives. This is an easy swap, and there are a lot of us who can answer any questions...

say man dont listen to ANY body saying a swap is to hard/long or "your better off buying a Camaro/firebird with a v8 in it already" they dont know what ther talking about.i my self did the swap.if you going with TPI or TBI i would recomed getting a parts car, but if you dont care about emissions and plan on going with a carb it will be relitvley easy.you will need the fowlowing. V8, V8 rad, V8 ruber motor monts, Transmition with a V8 belhousing, more than likley you will need a new drive shaft. if you have any qustions you can email me

yes dude, gold 85 is right, i did it myself twice and that's all you need, i also suggest that you forget that electronic crap and go carb. from all the wiring you'll see you just need 2 (the one for the distributor power and the one for the tach.already together) just cut the terminals and splice the other plug for the old model distributor, and keep the v-6 fan, you can do the new circuits using the old relay and looks complicated but it's really a piece of cake! by the way you don't need a driveshaft the old one will fit like "men and women".

Just about a year ago I replaced the 2.8 V6 with a 350 in my '84. This is with the five speed manual tranny. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Took a few months of weekends since i couldn't work on it much while I was away at school. I think it is much easier if you don't worry about emissions and computers (I didn't and still managed to pass emissions here in Atlanta). The previous reply was right about the driveshaft. I was able to reuse the same one, as well as the same transmission. I did have to get a different bellhousing and clutch for the T-5 and new motor mounts, but other than that it was no big deal. Let me know if you want any details. I'd be glad to help. Go for it.

If you don't need to worry about emissions, then the swap is easier. But, the list you gave is hardly comprehensive. From the tone of the original question, it did not sound as if much thought or investigation had occurred (no flame intended, 82camarov6).

This is not a project for someone who has a shop change their spark plugs. If some degree of mechanical ability/inclination is present, then it can be done by someone who doesn't have a lot of experience; but calling it "easy" is misleading.

In addition to your list, there's starter; flywheel/flex plate; fuel, tranny cooler (if auto) and brake line rerouting; fuel and water pumps; radiator fan & clutch; accelerator (and cruise if equipped) cable(s); heater and radiator hoses; front springs; entire exhaust system; power steering hoses & brackets; alternator brackets; power brake vacuum hose; AC compressor, hoses, & brackets; rerouting/lengthing/splicing/reterminating wiring for alternator, ignition, tach, choke, temp & oil senders, AC; etc. Don't give people the impression that a bare V-8 block and a couple of parts store pieces will be all that's needed.

If you really don't think I know what I'm talking about, then you didn't read my signature.

I stand by my original response. And, I'm willing to provide advice if it is understood that this is an involved project.
