water pump for Pontiac 400?
there is a 400 Pontiac engine someone is selling. It says it runs good, just needs a water pump. Now, what are they doing running it without a water pump? I guess you can just stick a hose in there, but anyway, Do you think with the $250 price for the engine, it would be worth it? I would also need a trany though. Cost wise, how much would this come out to be? Aproximately?
250$ for a running 400 is an excellent price, make sure it is a 400 those and its easy (those smart guys at pontiac
look on the block on driver's side on the engine underneath by the engine mount it sometimes is covered by crap but stamped will be the eather size eather "350" or "400" or mabey you might get luckey and have it stamped "455"
but a water pump is only like 15$ at any local parts store and easy to change, i say get it!

So, if I did even get it, how well would it fit in a 3rdgen? And, what kind of transmition would I have to use? Also, I'm guessing my headers that are about 2 months old will not fit it. I don't realy want to scrap those. It would be nice get a big engine, but I don't think it will happen. I don't realy want to pay that much for gas. How much do those use anyway? thanks for the info. I'll think about it
JBP makes convertion kits to make them fit in perfectly and they look NICE! also you would just need a trans adapter plate there like 40$ or so, other then that its a direct fit, you headers wont work but im sure theres many people that would gladly buy them from you. bas milage isnt all that bad at all, it all just really depends on how big a cam you go.

I have Dynomax headers. They are the ceapest you can get. The only good part is that I have a custom made Y-Pipe for them. Anyway, I don't think I will go for it. The car isn't worth it. I would much rather have a 350 out of an older Vette. It would be much easier to get in, and have many more parts for them. Not to mention the fact that they have power to begin with. Bu thanks for the help. I just wanted to consider it. Sorry ot get ya all worked up over it. I know the oportunity to drop a 400 in a car does not come around all the time. I'm in college and have no money. Otherwise I would give it more thought. I wish I did not have to deal with the problem of money. thanks for the help though.
