Engine Swap
Engine Swap
I have a 1987 TransAm with a 305 TPI and a 700R4 auto w/ overdrive. The 305 is getting weak after 110k and i need more power for my bird. I want to get a 350. Either rebuilt through Jasper or a 'base' 350 HO from Jeg's. If I drop in a 350, will i need to change the PROM or any of the computers? I want to keep the TPI set up with bigger injectors and throttle body. Is this an easy swap, or will it burn my wallet?
The swap is pretty easy just time consuming. If you get the rebuilt L98 motor you might need a chip from a 350 car but the rest of the computer and wiring should be fine. Get a 350 knock sensor and you should be good to go. If you get the HO motor from jegs you may need a custom chip. Get the specs from the cam. It may not be computer freindly at all. Also see if it a 1 or 2 pc rear main. A new flexplate isn't that expensive but you will need it if the motor is a 2 pc. Either way you go, I would get a better intake manifold before the TB if you havn't already purchased it. You will probably see better results from the start and it is easier to add a tb later.

You will only need the fuel injectors
from a 350 tpi.The chip is the same.
The MAS will take care of the air fuel
mix.
