which motor?
which motor?
i have a 305 tbi in my 91 RS. its just not working for me.i need more power. i would like to buy a short block 350(already with nice cam, pistons,etc..) or a short block 383. i am just wondering which would be easier to find parts for. what kind of heads do you use for a 383, do you just use 350 heads or 400's or what?if you have to do a lot of costum stuff to a 383 i think i would just stick with a 350 so i can just buy the heads and intake i want and drop it on in. which would be easier for a high school kid with not much knowledge about engines?

An AFPR simply means you can turn a screw to change the fuel pressure vs. being pre-set. There's an article in the tech section about converting your factory reg to adjustable.
You might try asking your questions on the TBI board, as those guys will have more insight into making it work with a larger engine.
FWIW, the 350 is a simplier choice. But, you can make your 305 run much better with typical TBI improvements.

Pimp, I notice you live in California. Are you subject to emission testing? If so, your first mod will be to move to another state that doesn't have emission testing.
As I understand California's emission laws, you can't just replace your motor with a bigger motor. You engine swap will need "approval". Also, every part installed in Californa MUST have a CARB#. No Miniram, no 383, no swapping on a carburetor, no removing your catalytic convertor, ... basically, no fun.
I don't live in California and I am by no means an expert on California's emission laws. I am only going by my faded old memory from chatting with my friends that live in California.
Review your emission laws first, and then you can determine what you can do and cannot do. Your engine build up is more limited than in states where you can pollute good like a car should.

I would scope out the TBI Board to see what you can do with your TBI. As for your chip (yup, you'll need one of those), scope out the DIY Prom Burning Board and look at learning how to burn your own. The stock eprom will not work.
As for emissions, well I can sympathize with you. The Smog ***** make it difficult. But you should ask about the Emission Laws on the Tech/General Board. It would be a crying shame to spend thousands of dollars and then being told your car is illegal.

well i would have to say that the 350 will be so much easyer for you, you can go with the holley 670 tbi unit, its injectors are peices of crap and should not be allowed. the 670 unit will just plug in with some slight modifications, the fast burn heads i have heard bad things about them and that they are over priced and the vortecs are better than them intill high rpms. if i was you i would go with a crate engine if its your first time, . you could go with what i did and just get a 330 hp gm crate engine that is fairly cheep but it all adds up but its more than decent

i am pretty much looking for 350+HP in the cheapest way. what about a 350 with the holley 670 TBI, holley intake which fits perfect with TBI, then some AFR heads. what u think about that combo?
