What do you think about THIS engine?

Okay, so I decided I'm swapping out the 305 for sure, putting in a 350. I think I found a motor I want. I still need to find out more information about it though.

This is what I know.

It's a carbed 350, four bolt main engine. It currently has a 2 barrel carb on it. The engine is actually from an old school bus! But... it only has 5,000 ORIGINAL miles. Not sure if it's a roller or solid cam. I am awaiting the block number to get the specs. They think the engine is late 70s- early 80's. It has been ran recently, too.

I want to go carbed 350 so is this a good swap for me? It runs, and they are even going to turn it over for me before I buy it. Is this going to be good engine for my car?

I've talked to a few mechanics about this and they all said "DO IT!!!". Apparently the bus motors got the best parts, and are extremely reliable. It would have great low end torque, too.

I just want a nice sleeper RS Camaro... will this be faster than my little 305? It's going to be bolted up to a built 700r4 and probably 3.23 or 3.45 gears.

It's not, but we don't have emissions, and I will be getting collecters plates in a few years.

Re: What do you think about THIS engine?

The problem is that motor is all low torque end and no top end.

Late 70'2 blocks are not roller. You will need to change the cam and intake to really use that engine. The bus engine has nothing past 4000rpm. You may also have to change the heads or at least have them worked a bit. How much they asking for it will determin if it worth it.

They want $400.

Intake, 650cfm carb, and cam will definitly be done on it.

Any more opinions? I pick the engine up on Saturday...

Apparently with a decent cam this car should be in the 12's.

There is nothing special about that engine and is wrong for your application. Might be ok in a rockcrawler
