Brackets with engine swap
Brackets with engine swap
I have an 83 T/A that came with the 305.Bought the car with no engine.Previous owner sent the brackets that went with the 305.New engine is an early 70's model 350.I can't seem to get the belts to line up correctly, especially the alternator belt.NOt sure if I am missing something, have the belts routed wrong or what.I have already been through 3 alternator belts and I am getting really frustrated.Any help would be appreciated, even pics if possible.Thanks.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Any chance you can post a photo of what you've got and the problem you're having? Are you using the alternator that came with the engine, or the one that came with the car?

Re: Brackets with engine swap
Well,I would send some pics but i have it apart right now.The main problem I have is between the alternator and the water pump pulley. The alternator is brand new and is supposed to be the correct one for the car. It's possible that I have the belts routed wrong.I didn't have a diagram. There is no smog pump on the car, just alternator, water pump, power steering and A/C.The pulleys are correct for the car and there doesn't seem to be any difference in the blocks.

Where did the brackets come from, then?
Which side of the engine is the alternator on?

I've looked for a decent picture of them, see if this helps.

If those don't help, I'll try to get a pic of mine this evening.

That looks like what I have.I am not sure if I am supposed to have a long or short water pump.I have a long on there now, tried a short and it didn't seem to work either.I have searched for a belt routing diagram but have been unsuccessful.I have found a used serpentine system really cheap and am about to the point to just forget the two belt system.

If you use the serpentine system, make sure you get a reverse rotation water pump to match.
