i have an 85 carbureted trans am and would like to put a v6/5speed in it for dirt racing. anyone know what i would have to do to put the engine in there and get it to run right. ive never done anything fuel injected before and the motor must appear stock. i was thinking of a 3.1 and a 5 speed. thanks.

 

work out the differences for the fuel injection, youll need a fuel pump, better to just swap over the whole efi system from another car

 

Find a 730 V6/5spd ECM and tune VATS out, then either swap the engine/dash harness in from a 90-92 bird or buy a 90-92 stand alone TPI harness and leave two injector connectors laying free. The stand alone harness will allow you to keep everything from your 85 TA. Use an inline 4 pulse cable to electric VSS to generate the signal for the ECM without compromising the stock 85 cable speedo

You will also have to update the sender and fuel lines for high pressure EFI

3.1 V6 and 90-92 TPI are very similar as far as control systems go
