Way to mount alternator on Drivers side Low mount.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this will benefit anyone on this forum, but I recently put an LT1 in my 84 RX7. I'm not running any accessories (AC, PS, AP) only the Alternator. I've seen a few low mount brackets for the LT1's, but most are expensive and mount on the PSGR side of the engine. While that is great on lots of cars, the alternator would not have fit on that side on my car.

This is done using this bracket http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/50542...oductId=761124 or similar variant.

Basically, as you can see, you need to flip the mount backwards (large plate on the rear) and use shorter bolts. you also ditch the provided spacers, and for now I'm using 2 of the spacers from the stock LT1 Manifold bolts. (I will change these later to one solid part) You also need to space the adjuster bolt out using nuts.

Total cost- similar $15 bracket from ebay and $3 of nuts/bolts, and a 33" Belt.

FYI: You CANNOT use the stock LT1 Alternator with THIS bracket- its larger around that this bracket Now, there may be a similar bracket that will fit the larger one, but mine is off an earlier model Corvette.

Stock Spark plug wires fit, the lowest one comes very close to the Alt, but does not touch. Turn them up off the opti, and use a bracket on the block to secure them.

Like I said, I'm not sure if you could use this mount in conjunction with any other pulley system, but if you are running the Alternator only, this works great.

Hope this helps someone out there!!!

Since you are asking about a 4th gen engine & this is a 3rd gen site.....

And the fact that a low-mount alternator will not fit in a 3rd gen, because of crossmember clearance issues......I'm not sure we can really tell you much.

Not saying the NO ONE will know the answer for you, but it isn't very likely anyone will here.

Good luck!

Do you know if this would work the same with a gen. 1 SBC?

I don't think he was asking anything...

And do you know how bad the clearance issues are, and are they only with the k-member? I have an aftermarket k-member, maybe that will resolve any clearance issues?

I do see now that he wasn't asking, just sharing info. My bad!

I've seen mambers notch the stock crossmember, for the LS1 alternator to fit in its stock location & some use a tubular crossmember which gives them the room they need for it to fit. So if yours is tubular, I would think it resolves clearance issues for you too.

What are doing doing for yours right now?

Re: Way to mount alternator on Drivers side Low mount.

I currently have no alternator... or engine, or front suspension on the car right now. Everything in front of the firewall on the car has been removed, and so has everything behind it except for the hatch, doors, and rear suspension (so that I can move it around in the garage).

I have a BMR k-member (waiting to be installed) and a SBC with 291 heads (no accessory bolt holes) (engine also waiting to be installed). I have a wieand team-g long water pump, and I have been searching forever for alternator brackets.

This looks like a solution that might work, possibly just with different spacers.

Re: Way to mount alternator on Drivers side Low mount.

I wish I could do a low mount alternator in my car. The front motor plate is in the way and if I notched it for an alternator, my steering linkage would be in the way.

My alternator is sort of low mounted but not like that. It's on the passenger side, turned around backwards so that the pulley is facing backwards and it's mounted to the frame.
