well the motor is a 71 400 4bolt main .. Its been bored 30 over . Stock botom end with trw forged pistons ..I plan on useing a TPI setup on top with a set of EQ heads .. and tossing in a paxton super charger for the hell of it .. the cam is yet to be determined but it will be a full roller setup..

i just did this swap with a 406. Make sure your 406 has all 3 starter bolts. if it doesn't have it drilled and tapped before you put it in

Re: 1988 400 sbc swap

I am pulling the 700R4 out of an 305 RS at my local yard .. should I keep the 3.42 rear end thats in my car now or swap in the rear end out of the donor car..

whats rear does the donor have? maybe i missed it.. 3.42 LSD behind a 400 sounds pretty mean off the line.

being an rs i doubt its a posi. and its more than likely a 2.73 gear. is your 3.42 a posi?

Re: 1988 400 sbc swap

its the stock rear for an 88 v6 car.. not sure .. I only say its a 3.42 because all the info says thats the only gear ratio available in the v6 cars in 88.. I have a few other projects that im finishing up so i havent really dove into this one yet just rounding up parts ..

Re: 1988 400 sbc swap

ahh ic. well id just see what you got before you start gettin other stuff. if indeed its a 3.42 posi rear end then its the best rear that came with these cars besides the 9 bolt.
