I didn't say there was anything that wouldn't fit. I was trying to say you copied the information about the kit contents incorrectly.

If you are using a stock factory cam, then you should be able to bolt them on. If you use any kind of aftermarket cam, it would be a good idea to change the springs. If you have more than around .45" lift, you should either use beehive springs & retainers, or get the top of the valve guides cut for more valve travel.

It would be safe to use gaskets for the heads. I don't recall off the top of my head if they are different, but certainly no problem if you use Vortec head gaskets.

Re: WHAT HEADS TO USE???

well i kept one of the head gaskets that was on the head and put it on the block and everything looked good was just making sure i could use the gaskets and there was no difference in doing so.

Re: WHAT HEADS TO USE???

well i am going to get head gaskets now..im left with if i should use the push rods that came with the motor...or the push rods that came with the vortec heads...i measured them and it seems that the ones that came with the motor are longer than the ones that came with the heads but the ones that came with the heads are way cleaner would it be a problem if i use the ones that came with the heads? Like i said before they are shorter than the stock ones that came with the motor? will that be a problem or should i just use the ones that came with the motor when i got it?

Short push rods are for roller lifters, and long push rods are for flat tappet lifters.

You need to use the correct push rods for the type of lifters you have.

Clean the threads (with a wire wheel if you have one), use Teflon paste sealer on the threads.

SBC head bolts are not torque-to-yield, so they can be reused. Torque spec is same as any SBC with iron heads.

If the pistons are dished, you should consider the SpeedPro CS1151R cam. It'll be all done by 5000, but you did specify low lift. It'll build more mid-range torque than most other 420/442 cams, because this one is on a 110 sep. The more common 112 sep is better suited to 305s.

Re: WHAT HEADS TO USE???
