83 trans am 350 crate swap help!
Ok, so i am going to install a gm performance 350 crate engine into my car in the near future. I really want to use my factory cfi from my 305( crossfire injection), what i dont know is if it is a direct swap or do i have to get it rejeted? And if i do how big should it be jetted out to? Also i have heard a lot of mixed feelings on my tranny,700r4 that it can only handle up to 300 horses. Is there a rebuild kit or anything that might make it more durable to handle up to at least 330 horsepower or should it be fine without doing anything to it? Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated, keep in mind that i am only 19 and dont have a lot of money to put into it thanks.

First, welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Second, I moved this to the Engine Swap forum because it really isn't a Carburetor topic.
Understand I've never dealt directly with CFI, but from what I understand, it is more like TBI than anything else, so you might find as good or better help on the TBI forum.
I also understand that the Vette 350 CFI parts can be used to upgrade f-body CFI when you go to a larger than 305 engine. But, the aftermarket never really got into the CFI stuff, so upgrades beyond that are very limited. At least one TGO member had a 400 under a CFI, so it's not like it's complete un-doable.
Which GM crate engine were you considering?
Keep an eye out on eBay, Craigslist, RacingJunk, etc., for Vette parts. And, you might want to take a gander over in the TBI forum to see if there is any help for you there.

Re: 83 trans am 350 crate swap help!
Thanks, i am going to install the gm performance 350 ho crate engine.
As far as the Tbi i will just swap them out for vette ones, seems like the cheapest route. I am also goin to put a rebuild kit into my tranny and a vette servo because i really dont want it to blow up. that's never any fun!
thanks for the input, much appreciated!

No no no, don't get that one. You're paying more to get less. If you want the hassles of trying to fit Cross Fire to Vortec heads, then get p.n. 12530282. It's $2200. It's the same block, crank, rods, pistons and heads as the 350 HO, but it's cheaper, plus it includes the roller lifters and stuff.

What I've found on many automobile forums is that the majority (over 50%) of planned builds/upgrades/swaps never happen.
Try the search feature for swaps that really happened
