350 rebuild

Hi all,
I am thinking real serioulsy about getting a 350 and doing a rebuild. Before I attempt to do the work, I am gonna get the Rebuilding Small Block Chevy's book and read and try to get a picture whats involved.I have never rebuilt a engine,so its my first.Dont know how long it will take, its gonna be a slow process due to money. Some people say its cheaper to buy a crate motor, but I want the satisfaction of knowing I did it myself.I plan on putting this in my 1983 Z-28 and finally getting rid of my 305.For those who have done this before, any tips on making it a smooth process?

What tools do you have available? A torque wrench is a must.

How much of the assembly do you plan on doing?

An engine stand is very helpful when putting an engine together.

Re: 350 rebuild

Hi,
We, I have the basic socket set.I need to buy a tourque wrench.I just want to be able to tear a 350 down, have the block and heads redone, then reinstall parts.i read that a good book about SBC Rebuilding is a must to read up on before i tackle this project. And yes, a engine stand is a must also.

You'll also need to buy or borrow a piston ring compressor. Piston ring installation pliers come in handy as well.
