1983 2.8 L engine swap
1983 2.8 L engine swap
I have a 1983 Sport Coupe original owner and would like to know if it is possible to swap out the 2.8 L (173) for a 3.8 L? From what I see the 3.8 was not an option in 1983. What would that take to do?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The only 3.8 ever installed in 3rd gens was the turbo Trans Am. Even that was unique compared to other 3.8's.
Installing any 3.8 would be an exercise in either scrounging or fabrication (and probably both). Any particular reason you are considering it? If the answer is, "Because I have a 3.8 available," I'd suggest selling it to help finance a more friendly swap.
If the answer is, "To be different," as I've said many times before, "different" is just shorthand for "spending more money to be slower".
