What can I expect?

I has a 91' Z28 that I'm swapping a 350 TPI from an 88' GTA into. With the camaro there is nothing left under the hood besides the drivers side part of the wire loom. The trans am is a complete running car.

Ok, now that you know what I'm working with, what major foreseeable problems am I going to run into. Someone disabled the vats for the trans am and I don't have the keys, but I have all the camaro keys with resistors in them. Has anyone else swapped a MAF tpi into a speed density car?

Re: What can I expect?

It's not technically emissions legal, but if you use all of the T/A's electronics, except keep the Camaro's VATS, it shouldn't be too much hassle, beyond the swapping of so much wiring. If it must pass an annual smog check, you would need the '91 L98 computer and wiring, but the '88 TB and intake manifold, all 4 pieces, could still be used.

Re: What can I expect?

whether or not it's plug and play depends on which route you go. Do you have annual smog tests, or not? If not, then it's plug and play.

Re: What can I expect?

From what I've read, I only need to pass emissions once with my car. Can I just swap in the computer and the passenger side wiring harness or is there something else?

Re: What can I expect?

The '88 config, with new spark plugs and so on, will run clean enough to pass '91 standards, but under EPA / federal law, putting an '88 engine into a '91 car is not allowed. You better talk to the local inspector to see what they'll let you get by with.

Re: What can I expect?

Using the GTAs engine wiring is a stretch. Youd be doing the SD back to MAF swap. Not ideal

Find a 90-92 TPI harness and L98/A4 ECM and the motor will drop right in there like the original and retain the SD functions

You cant really do an everything swap either, because bird to camaro dash wiring is night and day different. You can make it work, but itd be easier to find a 90-92 TPI engine harness and call it a day

Re: What can I expect?

90-92 ECMs are their own deal

The ECM is the same for V6/TPIs (not TBIs), but the MEMCALs and PROMs are engine/trans specific

Re: What can I expect?

I have the speed density computer that came with my car, but it's a 5.0. Also how do I check for the prom or buy a new one to swap in?
