New guy here with a couple questions.....
I have been reading some of the threads here trying to see what I need for an engine swap but I think my project is going to be a little different because of the mess I am working with.
I have a 87' Camaro 305/5spd. I traded a sportbike I bought to ride with my buds,1 who ended up selling his because he lost his job and another already wiped his out so I don't ride the rocket with anyone so I went ahead with the swap. I have my Harley I ride with good friends anyway
So back on subject, The Camaro right now has a 305 with a 2bbl stuck on top of it. Runs good and smooth but not powerfull. The guy has $2200 in reciepts for the tranny complete rebuild and install. It is A1 running tranny so I want to use it. My Speedo & Tach do not work, well the tach started to on the way home but it wasn't reading right. The speedo is thrashed,no face or needle. I am redoing the whole car and my 1st order of the project is the engine/exhaust/gauges working. I was reading 1 thread saying I will need some different parts to make the 5spd work but can't find the thread at this second.
My plan is to buy a Blueprint Engines 355 4 bolt (310hp/360trq) & Holley 600cfm 4bbl,the AC system is already gone so I am not worried about hooking that up but my heat isn't working, looks like it is hooked up so it could be the inside switches may be out.
If someone knows a thread I should be looking at I would appreciate a link,I know I see in every other thread use the "search" but I have yet to see any Camaro with a 2bbl set up. The deal is the guy I got the car from got it from a bud of his who had another motor in it and pulled it and slapped this 1 in it when they traded truck/cars.
I guess what i am looking for is 1 list of parts I will need for the swap so I am not buying the wrong stuff, all will be brand new.
Here is the motor I was planning on buying....

Here is the mess....

Sorry for the rushed thread,I have to go to work,1st day on new shift and 4th day at new job
Anyway I will check nback later when I have free time at work. I have a guy who is a good mechanic and painter who is going to do all the work but I am wanting to know this stuff for my general knowledge and so I buy the right stuff the 1st time and not buy stuff I don't need. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but no super mechanic or motor builder, just have never done it. Thanks for info, insight or links.....

Re: New guy here with a couple questions.....
Might I suggest a better engine at the same price? The GM 12530283 would be a much better starting point.
You would have to buy a matching flywheel, and likewise for the intake manifold, but it's still worth it because the heads are so much better. Plus it comes with roller lifters, and genuine GM assembly with all new parts. And the 3 year / 100,000 mile parts and labor warranty that is good at any GM dealer.

So basically the flywheel and of course intake/carb & anything else new I want?

Everything else you already have looks like...All your accessories will bolt on the new motor, current carb is not computer controlled so I assume that dist you have will be fine. Personally I'd rather have an electric fan and controller for it. I think you'll have to get a 153 tooth fly wheel for the T5 tranny.

#4 won't work, and #8 isn't a great idea.
There's no need to run an 8" damper when there are so many good 6.75" dampers available. Besides, larger dampers increase the inertia in the exact same way as using a heavier flywheel, and with the T5 trans, that's exactly what you don't want.
For the intake manifold, the BEST choice would be: http://www.jegs.com/i/Weiand/925/8502/10002/-1, but there are cheaper choices.

Re: New guy here with a couple questions.....
sure am,tell me how & what & why ,thx
If saving money means lesser quality I'm not trying to do that,as it is with this list it will take me 2-3 months to have the loot for the motor and the new goodies, maybe sooner. If your meaning save money and use my old stuff? That isn't why I made the list,I want to have "new" everything so I know it is and not wondering when the old stuff will need replaced. I have no issues spending the money for new parts to do the job right.
Alright I'll go with a smaller damper & from what I was reading (I am not an engine builder)was the motor I was looking at was idle-5500 so I was going with that type of manifold,so you suggest something along the 1500-6500 range, just wondering why for my knowledge.

Re: New guy here with a couple questions.....
Using the 8502 won't hurt the low-end, but using the cheaper manifolds will hurt the top-end. These heads far out-flow the idle-5500 intakes, making them a poor choice for good heads like these.
I'd also suggest calling Demon for a 750 annular, instead of the Holley 600. It'll be better for future mods, the annular means it's not too big now, and it'll save you an awful lot of tuning.
