305 TBI to 383 TPI??
305 TBI to 383 TPI??
Hello guys!,
Just wondering if anyone has ever swapped a 305 tbi with a 383 tpi??
I need to know exactly what steps to take! I am mechanically inclined, but sadly...I do need some instructions
I know if someone can tell me exactly what to do, or even post a link to a thread where someone has given detailed intructions on what to do it would be greatly appreciated!!
Just incase I have confused anyone Im trying to get a 350 TPI and stroke it out to a 383! Hopefully it will be pretty awsome.
Thank you very much!!

I can't point you to someone who has, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has been done.
For sure TBI to TPI swaps have been done. And, TPI has been put on 383's. So, between the two, what you're planning can be covered.
TBI to TPI: Remove the TBI engine, ECM harness (the one that goes to the passenger fenderwell - remove the plastic fender cover and kick panel inside the car, drop the ECM and remove the connectors, unclip the harness to the engine and pull it out through the fender and engine compartment). Drop the fuel tank and put in a TPI pump or aftermarket upgrade. Install the TPI stuff in the reverse order.
350 TPI to 383 TPI: Step 1 - take all of the TPI induction hardware and put it on eBay. Step 2 - buy a Holley/Weiand Stealth Ram, fuel rails, larger injectors & TB, attach the TPI harness and go (as in, go to the tuner and get the ECM tuned to the larger engine).

I went from a 305 tbi to a 327 tbi to 327 tpi to a 383 tpi.
You will need a fuel pump, ecm, chip, harness, intake manifold, 36 pound fuel injectors, and knock sensor.
Let me make a recommendation before I send you down the rabbit hole for the stock tpi setup. Get an accel DFI controller with a wideband 02 sensor. These cost 1600 bucks but are well worth the money, trust me. I've done 5 tpi engines using the stock computer and I'll never do it again.
I used a walbro 255 lph fuel pump. (you will need to rewire it though. Mine would overheat the fuel pump relay because the wiring was shitty from the factory and the gauge is too small. I believe there is a kit out there for this.
If you use the stock ecm you have two options. learn to tune and burn chips yourself or pay someone to burn them for you. I used Brian harris at TPICHIPS.com to burn mine for my 383. Cost about 350 bucks if I remember right. I will again strongly suggest an ACCEL DFI system for this.
Painless makes a harness for both the early 85-89 TPI and the late 90-92 speed density (no MAF sensor) systems. Cost around 400 bucks i think.
The fuel injectors were the most expensive part. Cost me 540 dollars. You might be able to get some used. Your exact injector size will depend on how much power it makes. http://www.rceng.com/technical.aspx
You will need a knock sensor from a car with a tpi 350 like a 1990 corvette pn KS6T standard motor products
here's some food for thought when choosing an intake.
