1.6 rockers on vortec heads

Ok I was wondering about putting 1.6 rockers on some vortec heads I'm goin to get. The motor is a stock 89 l98 bottom end with the stock cam. I know there's a way to multiply the cams lift (which i dont know) with the rockers or it's something like that, does anyone know for sure if this will work or how to add it up so I'll know the lift. Stock vortec heads can only go to about 470 lift so as long as it doesn't go over that I'm good right??

stock cam is only about 415/430, so 1.6 will be okay. But you need to check the pushrod holes. If they're slotted, get a cheap Louis tool. If they're round, drill them larger. Then have at it.

Just so you know, .460 is the MAX SAFE lift to run on STOCK vortecs. I've even read where guys couldnt even get .460 due to casting variations and the seals not being driven all the way on in certain years of vortec heads. Just a heads up, i'd check for clearance once u assemble the engine.

I will have to just check it and see it they will work. I may not go that route if if it's going to be a headache, I just don't want to buy some and they not end up working right

Not necessarily so. I've seen some of them, right off their original truck installations, take 0.520" lift with nothing but a set of CP 98111 springs.
I've yet to find a set that wouldn't take at least 0.475", and I'm fairly certain that that's why COMP's line of HR Xtreme 4x4 cams all have 0.474" lift. They were designed and intended for L31 pickups.
Even so, .430 with 1.5 is 0.459" with 1.6. Just don't try those Crane Nitro-Carb rockers, they're really closer to 1.66:1. That'd be 0.476"

I was wanting to just get stamped normal 1.6 rockers and like you said it adds up to be .459 lift and that's decent with a stock cam and I think the heads can handle that, do you think so? As long as I don't get the 1.66.1

If your heads have pushrod slots, look at these: http://www.competitionproducts.com/E...ductinfo/6160/
but if your heads have round pushrod holes, then look at these: http://www.competitionproducts.com/E...ductinfo/6738/

If the heads are the round hole ones, can't you just drill them out alittle, I read some post about people saying that,

I am running .484 lift with nothing but a spring change and opening up the pushrod hole on a set of 059s.

I have a set of 906s setup with 2.05/1.60 valves in them that run at .548" lift on the exhaust side. Those had to have the spring seats and valve guides machined.

What springs are you using, did you have to get them machined for the new springs
