VATS engine swap question
i have an 89 RS with a 305 TBI. it has the pass-key. i am currently building a 388 for it. i also got an edelbrock pro flow xt fuel injection kit to go ontop of that. it comes with its own computer and harnesses and all that good stuff. so my question is when i pull my old engine wireing and computer, will my car still start because of the pass-key. i looked at a wire dagram for my car and i think i can just jump the starter enable relay and that should make my car crank.
now im not exaclty sure if i will have this problem in the first place but i just want your opinion about it.
thanks

Re: VATS engine swap question
If the new ECM has VATS enabled you wont be able to start it directly. If it doesnt you will have no trouble. VATS is independent of the 3rd gen ECM and stays up in the dash

Re: VATS engine swap question
the new ECM and stuff is all a stand alone system so it has nothing to do with VATS. so i guess thats good, sounds like i will have no proplem then. the only thing i need to find for the new ECM is a wire that has power when it is cranking and when it is in the run position but nothing else. i belive that is for the ignition part of the endinge. ill just use the pink wire in the ignition switch.
