Engine: 305 V8 carb
Transmission: 700r4
How hard would this swap be?
hi. i was going to replace my 1989 firebird's 305 tbi engine with this new one: http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...case/index.jsp how hard would a swap like this be? and could i still use the same factory automatic transmission?

Transmission: 700r4 auto; converting to 6 speed
Axle/Gears: 9 bolt 3:27 posi; 2.73 open

yes u could use the tranny u already have although u may want to upgrade it by installing a shift kit

Your intake manifold would have to be modified in order to bolt to the heads on that engine.
The crank is the old 2-piece rear main seal type. Yours is the later 1-piece type. Your flexplate won't fit the new engine. If you get one for an '82-'85 f-body V8 automatic application, it will fit the engine and your torque converter.
This one would bolt in http://sdparts.com/details/gm-goodwr...gines/12568758, although you may need to do some computer tuning (true with the other engine as well).
Your stock TBI exhaust will hold back any engine you install in the car.

i was going to get a different intake manifold and use a carb... less complicated
i dont know about the flexplate though
