HELP need some wiring help

noob here, been lurking for a week or so and decided to join. recently picked up a 91 rs that was a 305 tbi car, changed over to an hei with a carb. i would like to get rid of most of the wiring under the hood. my question is, can i just unplug the computer, pull the harness thru the firewall into the engine compartment, and remove all the wires under the hood associated with the computer? im running a block mounted fuel pump. what about the chip in the key?thanks for the help
