Re: fuel pump question

I believe stock psi on that is around 65-70 or so. However, you still need to drop the tank to remove the old fuel pump. Hooking up an external pump without removing the in-tank pump will put too much of a strain on the external pump and kill it.

Re: fuel pump question

1984 carb car shouldn't have an in-tank pump just a carb pickup, so shouldn't be any issues there.

Re: fuel pump question

there is no in tank pump on the 84, it has a mechanical pump on the side of the block, the specs i found say for key on engine off: 40.5 to 47 psi and for key on engine running: 30.5 to 44, does this mean a 50 psi pump would be fine?

Re: fuel pump question

Oh, I thought the carb'd V6's had an in-tank pump. I knew the V8's had theirs on the block.

In that case, an inline pump will be fine. 50 psi will work with a regulator of course. You should be able to use the stock one I would assume. If you plan on doing any performance mods in the future you might want to go a bit higher.

Re: fuel pump question

Hmmm - I didn't notice the V6 part - maybe they did have an intank pump, I have no idea about that. IF there is one, then you'll have to remove, in which case might as well just install the correct internal pump for that engine. If not, then you should be able to just use an external electric.

You'll have to order from somewhere, I'd check summit or Jegs. But I don't know what pressure you need.

Yikes - I'd never swap out a V6 for another - for the same trouble of the swap I'd do V8 350 minimum.
