350 Tpi Help

ok im still undecided in buying a motor and need ur opinion on this and maybe some help ....im thinkin of buying a 1988 corvette motor tpi with aluminum heads it comes with ecm but i did some research and found out that that model year comes with the vats key and that motor is going in a 1986 trans-am if i were to get this motor how would u by pass the vats key and second the a/c pump looks diferent and the routing of the hoses is diferent, my next question is if i would be better of with a iroc-z or trans-am gta motor i know for 1989 they had vats key and would run into the same problem on how to by pass that but what would u recomend the vette motor or a trans-am gta or iroc-z motor both are the same please help me out with this

Re: 350 Tpi Help

As far as the VATS, it can simply be turned off in the PROM. I have also heard of people using a resistor to "bypass" it.

You will find a ton of information searching. There are many people running vette L98's here.

Re: 350 Tpi Help

You don't have a VATS module in your 1986 car, so you cannot use the "resistor" method. BUT - you can buy a VATS bypass module from ebay, PAinless, etc. - like $20 - $50. It generates a signal that you connect to the ECM from that vette so that the ECM will fire the fuel injectors. So that's not an issue.

Your 305 accessories will bolt right up to that vette 350 motor, so no issues there either - just use your a/c, smogpump , water pump, p/s pump (if the vette stuff doesn't fit under hood, which it should).
