305 refresh
After researching and asking gazillion questions, to keep IROC numbers matching I may just keep the factory 305 and just refresh it. without going exotic is there anything I can do to increase from 160 HP and get 225-250 HP? 5 speed quadrajet.

Re: 305 refresh
What is wrong with the engine?
Where did you get the magical number of 250HP? Are you trying to reach a certain time or trap speed at the local track?
You need to clearly state your goal (and HP isn't it because you can add tons of torque/HP and not hook)
If your engine runs fine, and you just want a little more neck snap, then bolt ons and change your gear ratio.

Don't know about 250bhp without adding forced induction and or nitrous. I do know however a good set of heads, a good intake, full exhaust headers back, better gears and a decent cam will get you close to that 220~230bhp if not more and provide a much larger hammer for acceleration.

Re: 305 refresh
It's got 162,000 on the clock and yes I'm just wanting a little more pep and snap. I don't want it to go down from 20 mpg it's getting and at the same time I'm not taking it to the track. I'm used to driving an LT1 with 180,000 and the little old 305 just can't hold. What are some of the bolt on's?

Check out the thread on the FAQ forum about the differences between 305's and performance improvements.
250 HP from a 305 is a piece of cake. 20 MPG highway isn't hard, but 20 MPG city is a bit more of a challenge.
Of course, you could do an LT1 swap...

Re: 305 refresh
Thanks again kid! How much money are we talking about to get it up to 250 horses? Right now keeping it numbers matching has to do with future reference of vehicle but just as important I'm not wantn to put the same money that I could in a 350.
