ZZ4 with FIRST fuel injection system

I can purchase a used ZZ4 with a FIRST fuel injection system. The motor has around 5,000 miles on it and it's currently in a '84 regal. This also has the stand alone computer system and a 700r4, that also has 5,000 miles. Would this be a good combo and a swap for my factory 1990 IROC with a 5.7 TPI? I have a complete HSR that I can swap out in place of the FIRST system. Would I want to use the FIRST electronics or my stock ECM with a reprogrammed prom? I'm going to pull it out on the 21st of May and pay 2,000 for it. Is that a good deal, I would think so.
Thanks in advance...

I'd be all over that! Leave the FIRST in, it complements the zz4 cam very well.
Try using the First computer and go from there.
Have you seen the motor run?

Re: ZZ4 with FIRST fuel injection system

Yes and I verified the engine code. The only thing is it has a lope like a LT4 hotcam. I haven't pulled the valve covers off yet to see what type of rockers it 's running. The person selling it has no idea what it is, he got it from a friend of his that built it then ran into the back of a bus which totalled the car and for some reason left him in a bunch of legal trouble. So he bought it for body parts for his other G-bodies. He thought it was a LT1 with coil packs... I do like the look of the FIRST, it's like a factory tpi on steroids...

All the sensors appear to be standard GM sensors, so my factory harness is a direct plug in.

Re: ZZ4 with FIRST fuel injection system

I see that you have a FIRST set up on your GTA, which computer did you use? The computer system is the Electromotive Tec GT electronics. This system is plug and play with external coil packs. He also has all the books, cd, and paperwork on it. I'm just worried about the vats system and all my gauges working...

Mine is still in the works! Another two weeks or so and I may be able to crank it over.
I am using the factory computer that i plan to tune myself using tuner pro and, equipment from moates.
I want to keep it simple and retain all the functions of the factory computer. You can do the same, just need to invest in some tuning supplies. The DYI section here has all the info you need.
You can turn the VATS off in the prom. Not sure if or how you incorporate both comps!

all sensors and plugs will work on the FIRST intake, (as far as I have seen so far)

Re: ZZ4 with FIRST fuel injection system

This would be a direct bolt in, engine and trans at the same time... I'll pull my factory engine out and bag it. So far I saved every factory/stock piece that I've replaced with aftermarket. The only thing I can't go back on is my sub-frame connectors, since they are welded in.

I love the Datsun z's, truly one of the only imports I would ever own!

That would be a killer project.... But so would a 5.3 or 6l lsx turbo swap

Re: ZZ4 with FIRST fuel injection system

Right now it has a built 10.6-1 compression straight six with a Bre racing cam, 4 barrel, a header and 2.5" exhaust. It dynoed 205 rwh back in 2003 when I built it... 350 rwh would be much better. The car only weighs 2,400 pounds...

Re: ZZ4 with FIRST fuel injection system

I haven't decided yet... I can get a new ZZ4 shortblock for $800 from a friend of mine and a set of aluminum heads for another $835, per my engine builder, I already have a new LT4 hotcam, 1.6 rr, and a complete polished HSR. I can put that in my IROC...

Re: ZZ4 with FIRST fuel injection system

I know, the shortblock has been sitting in a garage for 3 years. He wrecked his '89 IROC and never had a chance to use it. The heads would be new 200cc Patriots heads, can't beat the price. A little port work and thy will flow 275cfm. That combo will easily make 425hp...

When I sold my 1995 Trans-Am vert, 6-speed, the person that bought it was from Canada... He flew down and drove it back the next day....
