Re: 3.1 to 4.3 v6
I've seen the 4.3 proposed a few times, but I've seen it actually done only once: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...-4-3-swap.html
He didn't bother to get it running, either. And now all the pics are gone.
It's even more work than a V8 swap, it makes less power than a good 305, and the MPG benefit isn't much.
The 4.3 is NOT a direct replacement for your current V6, but the 3.4 is. That's what I'm doing right now.
The 3.4 lets you keep your current everything, from mounting to exhaust to radiator hoses, while the 4.3 makes you change everything.
The 2.8 and 3.1 versions of the T5 will work with the 3.4, but not the 4.3. These are still easy to find, and for under $100. The V8 versions that the 4.3 requires, they're scarce, in high demand, and are difficult to get for under $500.
If you already have a complete and running 200 HP, '96-up 4.3, with computer and harness, then maybe it's worth doing. Otherwise, probably not.
Also, if you're in California, then be aware that there's no legal 4.3 for a '92 car. The last time a 4.3 was factory installed in a car seems to have been the '85 Monte Carlo.
