1992 RS 383 Stroker Swap Questions

Hello everyone,

I have a 1992 RS 305 5.0 that I am planning on putting a 383 Stroker into. I know that the swap will be relatively simple but I was wondering if I would need to add some reinforcement to the frame and or torsion bar that attaches to the trans? Also would I need a new rear end or can the 1992 RS handle that much HP without tearing the rear axle off? Appreciate any feedback!

Thank you all!

I think frame connectors are needed with any performance upgrade. How much power do you plan on having with your new motor?

I was looking at the 400hp with key turn crates.

IMO, subframe connectors are a must on any 3rd gen, including V6's.

A factory 10-bolt can be made to handle 400 HP and auto transmission. Figure on welding the tubes, and installing aftermarket axles and a support cover.

You will probably need more stall in the converter. The TH700 could use some help to keep it alive - rebuild, shift improver kit, Vette servo - the usual.

five7kid is correct. In the past i have broken a mustang and a Z-28. I've also
had a 10 bolt rear end axle come right out. Subframe connectors, Moser axles
and, c-clip eliminators where a couple of the first things i did on my current build.

MetalMan1357 - good luck with your 383 swap. I plan on making the same swap in my '92 Z28. I was wondering what intake you were going to use - TPIS Mini Ram or Holley Mini Ram?

You are using the car for straight line only or planning to handle corners? I've heard c-clip eliminators are not a good idea on cars that experience high lateral forces.

You heard correctly for press on. I am not using press on. Am using a welded
eliminator. There are many horror stories with the press on eliminator. I would NOT
recommend a press on eliminator for street use. Aside from lateral weakness,
there is the issue of leakage which is almost guaranteed. Am fortunate a friend
of mine builds race cars and has advised me with things i know little about.
For this reason i went with Moser axles and weld on eliminators. I've had this
setup for 11 years now and NEVER got a leak or any other issues.

And by the way, i make AWESOME donuts and crazy eights... LOL

So the weld on eliminators are stronger than having the c-clips? Interesting..
