Did i do something wrong???

I have a 1991 camaro that originally came with a 305 tpi. I swapped it out for a 350 carb engine, and since i pulled the 305 out with the tranny at one time im not sure if its normal or i screwed something up. I dropped it in tonight with out the tranny because thats getting built at the shop. The back of the engine by the distributor is falling back into the firewall. Im not sure if its because there no tranny and tranny mount to keep it up? I put both bolts through the engine mounts so any ideas? Also i replaced my engine mounts with energy suspension poly mounts and for some reason i couldnt get the drivers side to line up. There was a metal thing sticking out of the mount "im guessing to hold the engine in place" and that was getting stuck on the block mount. I got pretty impatient and just grinded down all the metal things on both mounts. Was that a bad thing? But after doing that both mounts went in.

Put a 2x4 under the oil pan and jack up the back of the engine until you get the transmission mounted.

You probably had the mount inserts in upside down. The tabs are there to mate with the engine side mount to support the engine until you get the bolt through.

Re: Did i do something wrong???

Yes thats what i did, i jacked the engine up put a few bricks and layed piece of wood on top to support the engine from falling into the firewall. So i didnt mess anything up? Its supposed to fall back when theres no tranny in there? And as for the motor mounts, was that okay that i grinded the metal tabs down? There still metal sticking out, but i grinded them enough so the engine will drop it.

Motor will tilt some without a transmission attached. Sometimes it takes some creative jacking and prying to get the mounts to line up correctly.

Re: Did i do something wrong???

Yea, dropping the engine in at first was like a 1,2,3 job for the pass side to bolt up. Then 4 hours later of trying i just said screw it and just grinded those metal tabs down. I just want to know if what i did with the grinding was bad? or it doesnt matter?

Re: Did i do something wrong???

If you're talking about the little placement tabs sticking out I don't see an issue with it. My solid motor mounts are flat everywhere. It is possible like five7kid said they were in backwards, but as long as you got it all bolted up I don't think you'll have an issue.

Cool, well theres always one way to find out. Just to ask about your solid mounts, how do you like them? Does the car shake a lot? I was going to get them but just to be one the safe side with my first engine swap i got the poly mounts.

Re: Did i do something wrong???

The car does shake a little. It doesn't rattle at least. I would not recommend for high hp setup but I just want 350 rwhp and a small 100 to 150 shot eventually.

Re: Did i do something wrong???

Yea most of the summit guys say to only use them on like 600-700 horse powered engine. But mine is estimating 300-350, ill def be doing those solid mounts. What brand did you use? and did you change both the ones from the block and chasis or just the chasis?

Re: Did i do something wrong???

If you use the spohn ones you can just reuse your uppers, block side. I used moroso ones so they take both new lowers and uppers.
