86 T/A Engine wiring question

I got a carb on my 86, but I want to go to a TBI setup. Can I get a harness from any TBI V-8 F-Body car? I thought I read somewhere that the wiring harness has some changes in it after 87. I really don't want rewire my dash. I want to keep it very simple.

Thanks in advance.

I don' think it had a carbed 350 to begin with so research the vin and find out what was in it to identify the harness you have. It was either a 305 HO or TPI I believe. Anyway thats a start.

Re: 86 T/A Engine wiring question

I have a 305. I'm going with a 350 and I want to go with EFI. I know carbs are simple, but I want to go EFI.

So do can I go with any F Body EFI Engine Harness (and ECM)?

Re: 86 T/A Engine wiring question

No. You need to make sure its the right computer and harness for you. It wont be simple in any case. There are basically three types of fuel injection if you discount crossfire. Two if you leave out TBI. That leaves speed density or non-speed density TPI. You need to do some research on those and decide. Stick to the technical pubs at first. Don't give up when you get negative feedback. Its your project. You will find that one uses mass air flow the other does not. When you make engine changes to either your computer needs to know about them or you my not get the result you are looking for. Good luck.

I found this to be an excellent reference manual. For $8 you can't really go wrong. http://carburetor-manual.com/tuned-p...ual-p-127.html

Repinning an 88-92 TBI harness from a 3rd gen to fit your 86 will work fine. Remember you'll have to run a new wire to the fuel pump and change the sender
