Why would you want to make it slower? Just because you have it, doesn't mean you should use it....
Re: Interesting swap concidered

Re: Interesting swap concidered
i know it may seem interesting, but there is a reason why the ford guys are doing LSx swaps into their cars more than you see the GM guys putting in ford parts. the value isn't there when you take in the amount of time and fabbing required to do something like that. there's something to be said about being "different", but don't waste a ton of money to say so.
on that note, there are *tons* of options out there for engines that will nearly drop into a 3rd gen, its one of the reason why they're so popular. wanna keep it simple? go sbc. want a potent setup with great drivability? go LSx. wanna be a little different? boost a gm v6.
there are enough headaches to be had when doing any motor swap, don't over complicate things just for the sake of being different

Why? For the novelty? That gets old. Already have the engine? Sell or trade it. More familiar with it? Doing a TPI SBC works on the same principles. The EEC-IV control? This isn't 1987, it's 2011. For the glory? Everyone will say: "Props", but neither the Ford guys nor the GM guys will respect you more for having done it, if you can.

Re: Interesting swap concidered
I've seen chev engines in fords and ford engines in chevs. I've seen dodge engines in chevs. Some people do it because they like a body style but prefer a different engine. There's lot of ford and dodge body styles I like but don't care for the engines.
With enough fabrication skills, time and money, any swap is possible. Is it worth it? Probably not. The old 302 ford engine was always a popular swap into older vehicles because it was a very narrow block which could be dropped between the frame rails of just about anything. It might not have been the best option but it was an easier swap.
Performance wise? Lots of 5.0 ford aftermarket parts are available but as mentioned above, ford owners are dropping in LS engines into their fords for a reason. If you look at the head bolt pattern on a 5.0L ford compared to a SBC, you can see why the fords are always blowing head gaskets.

That doesn't hold up, when the LSx, like the SBF, has 4 bolts around each cylinder, and HotRod just twin-T76'ed a 4.8L to 1200 HP with no O-rings.
Re: Interesting swap concidered
Well I don't agree with this swap, but here are the sizes you would need to know:

Re: Interesting swap concidered
To follow that fine example, I believe I'd use the late-'80s Mustang oilpan, and a tubular crossmember. The exhaust situation seems rather obvious, as does cooling and fuel and driveshaft. Transmission looks easy with a Jegs torque arm. B7M console Megashifter fits our cars, but the guts are easily configured for AOD, if you don't go T5 or T56. If you do, then McLeod can take care of the HTOB for a Ford version, or there are adapter plates to use a GM version, then keep the torque arm. Much cheaper. Or TCI makes a kit to use a GM automatic behind a SBF.
