LG4 to '69 350 swap
Hi,
I plan on swapping out my leaky LG4 for a 69 350 and need a bit of advice/help with this swap as I have never pulled an engine before. I am just looking for a budget street build with future potential. heres what I have for the swap already:
'69 350 virgin block
76cc chevy racing heads
lumpy crane cam (not sure specs but can find out)
crank
flat head pistons
rods
what i need to know, is what would you recommend for everything else? intake? carb? what costs are involved? I want to stay under 2 grand for this build and about 350-400 hp and tq.
Thanks

Re: LG4 to '69 350 swap
I would seriously consider keeping the LG4 computer controlled carb system. My 2 cents. That will save you quite a bit of money.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
What exactly are these heads? Very few 76cc factory heads were worth a hoot, and if they are the same year as the block, they won't have hardened valves or seats, unless they've been reworked, and won't have the accessory bolt holes on the ends. There's about a 10:1 chance your 305 heads would make more power on that engine. And, they have the hardened seats and accessory bolt holes that you'll need.
I sure hope they're flat top pistons. I doubt Ford flat head pistons would fit!
I'd recommend ARP rod bolts, and resizing the big ends. Unless you just buy a new set of aftermarket rods. Some good ones, that already have ARP rod bolts, are available at a price that isn't much more, if any, than the cost of redoing factory rods.
Do-able. As stated, I'd keep the computer carb system your car has now. Dump the lumpity cam for something that is computer friendly. You don't need lumpity for 400 GFWHP. If you just want the lumpity idle, well, I'm not the person to give you advice.
