can i run my 89 mech. speedo in car with 91 305 tpi

I've been searching, but maybe I'm dumb. I just did an engine swap into my 89 mechanial speedo Camaro. I really want to keep my mechanical speedo. Is there a way to bypass vss to allow this? I hate the look of the 91-92 gauge cluster (no offense). Please help.

If the speedo is mechanical and the transmission has the mechanical speedo housing and gears, plug and play. In other words, if you're using the same speedo and trans, all should be good.

I do have the mechanical speedo hooked up. I was under the impression that since I have a engine, harness and ecm from a 91, I would have to use the electronic speedo vs. Mechanical because I would drivability issues if I left the harness unplugged from the vss.

I see. The VSS is located on the tail shaft of the trans where the electronic speedo is concerned and on the back side of the speedo cluster where the mechanical is concerned. How those issues might effect drivability, I'm uncertain. If you don't find your answer here, you might eventually post your question in the electronics forum.

The brown wire from the speed buffer on the back of the speedo goes to pin C6 of the ECM.
They used that ECM in many applications and that is the way for a cable drive setup.

Does that brown wire from the buffer go all the way to the ecm. Is that the only brown wire st the ecm? Anyone have any ecm diagrams so I can locate c6? Thanks!!
