tuned port swap
im currently thinking of ideas for my firebird. im doing an engine swap and havent decided of im doing a tuned port engine or a carbed engine. i like the way the tuned port looks and the fuel economy of the fuel injection. i want to do a 350 with a mild cam double hump heads and a rebuilt bottom end.
my question is sort of engine swap/electronics. im putting a summit racing wiring harness in the car which will replace the stock wiring and bulk head connector on the driver side. ill be pulling the tuned port set with wiring and ecm from an fbody so my question is how do i hook up the harness? i wont have the driver side connector anymore so will i still be able to run my tpi harness or will i have to order an expensive a$$ tpi harness?

Re: tuned port swap
here are the parts im going to be using
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-SBCKIT1-300/
thats the engine rebuild kit i want it will be a .030 over so im told thats a 355.

thats the wiring harness for the car i will be using.
i also want to cam it. i want it to be mild with a decent idle. i dont know whats too big for a tpi with stock plenum runners and manifold. nothing will be ported.

Re: tuned port swap
unless the inside wiring on the car is completely shot or rigged, i wouldnt bother with the summit wiring kit. its gonna be a pain to rewire EVERYTHING in the car.
as for the tpi setup, as long as you get the wiring and ecm with the intake, itll be a direct bolt in. the engine wiring is seperate from the rest of the car.

Re: tuned port swap
yeah the chassis harness in my car is done for its all cut up and theres shorts in it plus the connector pins are all messed up. none of the gauges work and it kills batterys over night so i was told that im gonna need a new harness. i seen other builds where they make it look so easy. so your saying if i do the harness swap then the tuned port wiring from a stock fbody would still work without having to be connected to the driver side bulk head connector?

the ecm wiring doesnt connect to the driverside harness at all.

Re: tuned port swap
theres a few wires that run through the loom behind the motor, but none of them go to the driver side bulkhead connector

get a harness from a car in the salvage yard, it'll already be set up. nobody really takes the underdash harness. also unless you're using a larger oil pan, get a standard volume oil pump. use melling m155 with the matching pick up. It's a 3/4" pickup tube. what year intake are you picking up? that'll depend on what heads you can use.

Re: tuned port swap
ok so maybe my plan will change. when i get a tuned port intake and harness ill just pull the dash harness from the same car at the salvage yard. that will be like 30 bucks for all the wiring! instead of a 300$ kit that might be a pain in the ***. i definitely want to use my stock gauges. i love them for some reason. plus i wont be doing too much strip usage so the stock oil pan should be good. ill just clean it up and spray it or something. i want to have a roller cam engine but i want to try to get an intake from a perimeter bolt engine

If you're looking to buy really soon, I have a set of TPI corvette aluminum heads. they use the old style intake bolt pattern, but they have the centerbolt valve cover holes.
