Calling on Iroc-Z's with 454

My buddy thinks that fewer than 10 people (Him included) have put a 454 into a Iroc-z. I told him he needs help if he thinks less than 10 people have put 454's in a Iroc-z. We have a bet going winner bus lunch for a week.

Any input on this?

Thank you for your time and response.
Mark

Re: Calling on Iroc-Z's with 454

Fine print note. This argument is model specific to the Iroc-Z

And a pretty silly argument. Who cares if it's an Iroc-Z?

I agree, But this guy things everything he does, no one else can do or has done. I called him out on the 454 in a Iroc and told him plenty of people do it and he told me he was the first in 2008 to do so. I am just looking for proof to shut him up and collect on the bet.

Re: Calling on Iroc-Z's with 454

What's so special about it being an IROC-Z? The only difference is cosmetics.

My 87 IROC-Z started with a 454 back in 2001 and has continually grown since then. This spring it will be up to a 588. I could push this block to a 605 but that starts getting into weird parts in a short deck block.

I still have the original 5.7L Tuned Port Injection badging on the rear bumper

Dart Big M block
4.625" bore x 4.375" stroke = 588
4.625" bore x 4.500" stroke = 605

Sounds like, d00d is an idiot.

Nod agreeably, keep your mouth shut, and laugh behind his back.

People like that aren't worth arguing with. Not only, they drag you down to their level, and once they get you there, beat you with their massive experience; but also, bystanders can't even tell which one of you is the greater idiot.

Let him make a fool of himself all by himself without your help making yourself look like a fool too.

I'd just tell him you ran for President back in 2008 also. Won the election, and made a law that Santa's elves can no longer work 24 hour shifts because it's unconstitutional.

Re: Calling on Iroc-Z's with 454

Dude just leave the guy alone, those kinds of people are poison for your mental stability and happiness. You dont really care that much but these people just get under your skin and etch away at your sanity over time.

I had the misfortune of meeting this guy on ONE occasion, and after all his stories about NASCAR crankshafts and you have to use thicker head gaskets with a stroker motor and how he had a 400 bored out to a 454 and how his 84 IROC did 210 mph and how LS1's are just LT1's with an aluminum block.

I just gave up and avoided the guy in the future. I suggest you do the same before you end up hitting him and having assault charges filed against you.

I've known of 5 just in the Saint Louis area, and 1 with an RS (not Irocz). The RS was with a 5-speed and it didn't last very long.

By your post count and question, I'm guessing you are under 16 years old. If not, I feel sorry for you. These cars sure find their ways into the wrong hands and give us owners a bad reputation. No wonder people ask if my car trailer is my home......

BTW, I have 1 of 1 produced 1982 IROC Z's with a 555 BBC. I bored my 350 to a 4.600 bore. It really unshrouds the valves for that "seat of the pants" acceleration.

Back in 91 my dad read an article along the lines of "mouse body; rat engine" and put a 454 in his 87 IROC-Z.

I would like to ask my Big Block Brother a question if I may. Would really like to know what Patriot headers were you able to get to work? If you could take some time to help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks Edward.

What's weird about 4.5" stroke in a 9.8" deck? This was much more common in the '80s, And by the time you consider the need for longer rods to go with a 4.75" stroke in a 10.2" deck, works out about the same.
Thing is, I've seen a tall deck under a stock hood of a third gen, with power brakes and a/c but no air cleaner. Aside from the Hooker swap headers being intended for 9.8", I don't see any other problem with just starting tall deck to begin with. For those who can't afford a 502 block or aftermarket block, a tall deck truck 427 block is a cheap way to build a 575. Sure, the aftermarket block offers a raised cam, but the truck 427 can be bored to 4.390" safely, so using 30-over Ford 460 rings is an option.
