Cam Swap

Well the cam went flat in my car and looks like I will be doing a cam swap. Im torn between the comp x262h-10 or the Lunati Voodoo 60102 (262/268), ive heard good things about both. The motor is a 78 vette l48 with smogger 76cc heads and -11cc pistions for a whopping compression ratio of 8 to 1. I will be using the stock push rods because ive heard that they will work, extremely tight budget, and these springs unless you guys have any better suggestions: http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ct_Code=981-16
Ive heard that the xe cam line is an older grind compared to the Lunati voodoo line and that the Lunati is a better cam.
The specs are as follows any input is greatly appreciated:
Xe262h-10:
Duration @ 0.006":262° / 270°
Duration @ 0.050":218° / 224°
Max Lift w/ 1.5RR: .462" / .469"
Lobe Separation: 110°
Intake Centerline: 106°

Lunati Voodoo 60102:
Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 262/268
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 219/227
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .468/.489
LSA/ICL: 112/108
Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
RPM Range: 1400-5800

The Car: 1984 Trans am 350 with 750 holley vacuum secondary, full 3in exhaust, long tube headers edelbrock eps manifold, t5, 3.73 rear gears. I will be documenting the cam swap in the car.Thank you all for youre help!!

Re: Cam Swap

Once a flat tappet cam failure happens, most guys learn and go for a roller conversion.Better profiles, lifts,no worry install are some of the main reasons. Here we refuse builds if the owner won't put in a roller. We are following a trend we have seen in the trades. With today's oils it just isn't worth the hassle.Btw-I am not saying you can't use a flat tappet. You have to know how to properly break in one.

Re: Cam Swap

Yep i agree i have plenty of experience, 30 years of auto repairs and racing, i know how to break a cam in. The only problem is that i have 300$ to spend not 1000$ for a retro roller cam. I used only shell rotella oil in the motor and it ran fine, what the previous owner did i cant tell. I know what im doing but thank you for the suggestion. Any input on the current cam selection though.

Re: Cam Swap

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Comp cam require machine work on the heads and recommend the cam and kit, self alining rockers, etc??.

Re: Cam Swap

It only requires machining with certain springs. There are two types one that fit in the stock retainers or ones that rehire you to bore the head out. Those springs are the recommended ones for the comp cam since the lunati is so similar I thought they would work for that cam as well.
