Geez, its been a while. Cam question!

Hey guys, Holy cow its been a while since ive logged in to see whats going on around here!

Back in june of '10 i had to unfortunately put my T/A build to a hault.. But i started collecting parts last month and just made some final decisions of what im gonna do, this time! Considering the ol' L69 is worn and the oil PSI just isnt what it used to be back in its prime, i decided its time to turn her into a boat anchor.

Before:

'86 WS6, L69 305, Generic top end work, Gears, True Duals.. Typical bolt ons.

IN Progress:

So far ive collected a '76 4 bolt 10% nickel 350 block which i had tanked and honed, along with a GMPP forged crank, a set of GM X rods, and a set of TRW forged pistons. All of it is assembled and is now in shortblock form, and it seems everything is going to pair quite well. As far as topend goes i will be throwing a set of ported/polised World S/R Torquer 76cc heads on top, with a Weiand high rise. I will be using shim gaskets and overall compression should be ballparked around 10.5:1.

Now my bug lol-
As far as cam's go, im in between the CCA 12-368-4 and 12-367-4. Ive always stayed under an average 300 adv. duration.. But i want at least .550 lift. The 12-368-4 has a pretty radical duration for street use, but its only slightly over 300. I just dont want to run into any idle/vac issues moving forward. The only kicker is the fact that running 1.6 ratio rockers with these specific heads required elongation of the push rod holes, which i would prefer not to have to deal with the hell of driving many miles to my closest machinist to have that done. In a nut shell, the 12-368-4 will give me about .556 lift with a 1.5 ratio rocker, but the duration is still making me think twice. The 12-367-4 would barely give me .500 lift with a 1.5 ratio rocker, however the duration seems a bit more comfortable for street/strip purposes.

Would appreciate anyone's input- and it feels great to be back!

Unless those pistons are domed, your 76 cc heads put you under 9.5:1 No point trying a serious cam with those heads, no matter who ported them. Look to the XR276HR10.
