Re: need a little help !!!
finally the rain let u0p and i got the dizzy in got teh rotor facing the right way and the engine turned to about 8 btdc. maybe if I don't have to work my life away this weekend I can wire the dizzy and pour a little juice in the carb and at least here it turn over. then I'll finish the water hoses and PSteering and find the wiring protectors aka heat shields and tighten everything down. then its on to the brakes and shocks!!!! oh and i primed the engine and made sure that the oil was coming off every rocker arm FLUENTLY and i need the fittings for my TBI fuel lines and mallory 4309.
Does anyone know how to find out the size of the distributor retaining bolt that fits a edelbrock 7116 intake the one on the old 305tbi is too big? 3/8 coarse thread

Re: need a little help !!!
Ok got the dizzy in, a little snug, and wired, tried to make sure that the rotor stayed pointing at number 1 by marking everything. Turn the key to make sure the starter would engage and nothing. Break out the jumper cables and still nothing. Switch vehicles nothn. Finally touched the pos and neg together and not even a spark my cables are gArbage. So I have charge the battery. I'll try to git it running tomorrow.

Re: need a little help !!!
ths thing sounds good!!!!!!!!!! it took me a while to get the timing and firing order right I just couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong but once I got it straight I fired it up and it runs good!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to thank all the people that helped me on TGO all the moderators and members, my father, friends and co-workers, and everybody from the top to bottom that gave advice or came to show me something I appreciate it a whole lot. Now, to finish it up and git it road worthy: finish and fill the PS, reroute the tranny lines (they are rubbing the center link)/fill the tranny, route/fill antifreeze, and cap/cut all unneeded wires(hot). then we go to brakes, and struts/shocks.

Re: need a little help !!!
I got my fresh 355 carbd vortec to fire twice after fighting with the timing. Now I can't get it to fire up any more. I have spark, I have gas 93octane and no air filter. Its killing my battery trying to start it I've tried moving the dizzy a little each way still nothing. this is after getting it to run (twice short term) but now nothing my dad said that it might be timing again. any advice.

FINALLY, FINALLY , FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what else to say..... FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's all I have to say Finally! the beast is awaken!!!!
I did the following to it: Changed the ign. module to a mallory, changed the coil that came with the dizzy to a 50,000v flame thrower, checked the firing order again it was perfect, rotated the dizzy to make sure I was close to TDC , double checked to make sure the starter wires weren't touching and were tight, took off the 4 or 6 gauge (idk) ground wire going from batt to engine put on a 2 gauge ground wire roughed up the surface with a file to ensure good contact. turned key the little ground wires didn't get hot anymore, then I got a funnel and a 2ft pc of rubber hose and ran it to the carb poured in some gas and held the funnel in the air. pumped the gas on the carb twice by hand and had my wife to turn the key. and that monster fired up and ran like a monster AAAAAAAGGGGGGHHGHHHHGHGHHFHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I love the sound of a good running V8 chevy. I did not let it run long the radiator is not connected yet and of course the oil was already primed!

I just want to say thank you!! you guys rock! there are many others that have given their advice, solutions, and input and I thank you.
I still have alot of work to do: PS pump, connect radiator, then i have to find a muffler shop that can run me what I prefer which is 3in true duals (no cat) with 3in pipes all the way to the back for a reasonable price near 27524,28334. 90% of insp. places here don't look under the car unless 96 and up.
thank you all for all your help.

Re: need a little help !!!

uh oh the rack is back!
the car runs well but the body I put it in needed a whole lot of work I just happened to find a v6 car (though modding is needed to get a v8 in) that is in cherry condition. the interior is already redone, the exterior is in beautiful shape. so I will be dropping the v8 in it. I will have lots of pics and will be updating often. wish me luck
I looked on CL and voila there was a 91rs there just waiting for me. now normally I would have passed on a v6 car b/c I am trying to put a v8 in it #(wiring problems)# but this thing is gorgeous. it was in such good shape that the lady (63yo) would not let me get in it with muddy shoes AFTER I paid for it. the interior was completely redone and FULLY restored. the hatch pull downworks, I believe AC works, the headliner done, not a single crack in the dash or dash pad. door panels and all restored 110k miles on the whole car. rims=new, tires(15in)=brand new, stereo system with subwoofers and amp=new, sail panels = new seats not redone but well protected, gfx original and immaculate except for front nose louvers but the ones off my 89rs will screw right in place. passenger fender has a dent pushed in about the size on my hand but not creased these are the only 2 flaws (really just 2)
she said the motor was gone she said she got the oil changed and got the tires put on and was going to the store a couple days after and the car shut off and would not crank so she parked it and covered it up with a car cover SHE GAVE ME THE CAR COVER! I had to take off the driver side rear brake drum to free up the wheel for the dolly and after I bought the car she wouldn't let me put the drum in the car on the carpet (it was raining) she was covering the hatch when I was getting the jack out of the compartment. The jack was brand new literally (NEVERTOUCHED THE GROUND BEFORE!) it stuck so hard to the sticky pad that helps to hold it behind the spare tire. The spare she would not let me put on the ground! The car is in amazing condition and since my motor is not by any means computer controlled I shouldnt have any trouble with the wiring harness (no more than maybe the tach) which is good b/c I dont want to do anything to that dash if I don't have to. Her son said that she wanted $2k for the car but he talked her down to $1000 and he said ppl wanted to give him $300 for it in this condition and he told them no way! I didnt even argue about the price. Think about it
my car: body and paint 3k
interior 1500
hood 500
stereo installation 250
ttop tbar 75
weather stripping (ttop) 500-700
this car: so far all I need is thedent pulled out of pass. Side fender (hand size)
battery - oh wait I have one
motor – oh wait I have one
v8 auto tranny – oh wait I haveone
3.23 gear rearend - oh wait it came with it
new exhast – stock wont join with headers and y-pipe.
Front grill – oh yeah I got one

to this oh and check out my ad: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/exte...0-91-92rs.html

Re: need a little help !!!
The worst of the modding needed to me is swapping the V6 mounts to the V8 mounts including moving them and the minor brake line bending. Maybe the front springs too. Good news you have all the parts.

Re: need a little help !!!
I almost have the black car stripped its been a slow process but its coming along I have everything I need to complete the swap so I will up date when I can thanx. oh instead of bending the brake line to go behind the motor mounts I'm just going to use the brake line that is attached to the v8 car already that way no risk involved and since no one bought the control arms off the black car I'm going to buy new bushings ad ball joints and tie rod ends struts and shocks and when I ut it back together i'll be making sure that it is all new. and since I have to take the rear end out to replace the fuel pump anyway (to make sure its new) I will replace the shocks and whatever bushings need to be replaced. I'm going to keep the new brack calipers that were on the v8 car just in case and the radiator that was in the v6 car. and while the motor is out I'll be replacing oil pan gasket since when I did the rebuild I mistakenly put permatex on the gasket and its been leaking ever since. I will be fixing that!

Re: need a little help !!!
finally able to write back: I got the black car stripped and out of the way. then I got the white car stripped of everything that I thought I would need and started gitting it reddy for the v8 install I changed out the v6 coil springs and while I was at it changed out the struts and inner and outer tie rod ends and the control arm bushings and of course the ball joints. thx to search button for this thread making the job a whole lot easier https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...y-install.html and this one https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/en...ing-motor.html (Problem vith relocating motor mounts (V6 to V8 swap) - holes won't line up) I will keep yiou posted as often as I can. I don't git a lot of time to work but work as much as I can.

Re: need a little help !!!
Ok so I'm going apologies to jump on in I'm unsure on how to begin my own thread on a simple topic . Although its not simple to me on how to find a recommended valve spring for my camshaft for my engine swap I've already chosen a 2208 rolling thunder edelbrock cam . For my 1975 block and my heads are a 906 casting vortec head and edelbrock doesn't manufacture a set of valve springs for that particular year cylinder head now I'm left confused on this topic only because recommended specs for the spring is intended to be closed pressure of 120-130 pounds, open pressure of 320-340 pounds . I've looked high and low only to find only one or the other range was being met and I don't know know of I should worry . I bought 5703 valve springs from edelbrock only to find that the damper was hitting the valve guide and all that the manufacture could tell me was to continue machine the top of the valve guide and seal this sounded only crazy to me so guys please help me out . more natural for me to keep helicopters in the sky not building sbc much appreciate it guys and maybe gals if you have an answer.

Re: need a little help !!!
Last night was an adventure I started taking the fuel pump out and some interesting things happened. I couldnt find all my tools, then pb blast was doing no good, the car wasn't jacked up far enough, I had to cut the end links and all I had was a grinder, sparks went everywhere, my air compressor kept losing pressure, I found out that my gas tank has a hole in the bottom of it for some unknown reason (then I realized the grinder could have caught everything on fire). #I seriously thank God that it didnt!!!#
then the jack got stuck and when I got from under the car the jack stands that were on solid ground weren't anymore b/c of all the rain we've had here in NC so the the car fell. #after I got from under it# I thank God that noone was under it!!!!! After all of that I stabilized the car, packed up, and after thank the lord that noone got hurt took my butt in the house and enjoyed my family. So how was your wednesday? I'll try it again today to get the tank out nad tomorrow take it to a radiator shop for patching.

tombowman89 welcome to thirdgen when I first came I didnt know how to post either. I do not know the answer to your question but if you LOGIN< THIRDGEN MESSAGE BOARDS<TECH/GENERAL ENGINE<NEW THREAD or POST NEW TOPIC (its on the left hand side of the page across from the page numbers a little up from the middle of the page.)
then title your topic and ask your question. Then SUBMIT NEW THREAD.
I have found that the usually more ppl looking at the tech/general engine section that can answer a larger variety of questions than in any other section. I hope this helps
