Questions about v6 to v8 swap
Questions about v6 to v8 swap
I have an 87 v6 2.8l automatic a4 tranny firebird It over heated and damage to the crank shaft has happened so I'm thinking it's time for a swap if I use a 305 or a 350 from the same year or newer firebird which would be easier how much would bolt straight up? Which would have less parts to replace and will my tranny bolt up? If the motor came from an a4? I've been researching all day and I've read the stickys but they don't seem to answer my in family fire bird swap questions

Well the moral of the story is my mom won't let me get rid of the car so seeing as how I'm looking at replacing or rebuilding I wanna go bigger I'm just trying to figure out the easiest way...I noticed on the factory spec sheets that some model 305 and all 350s that came in firebirds also came with a4 trannys now do they bolt up is a diff question which is one of the things I'm trying to figure out lol btw I'm in Tampa saw you were from NPR

cool a fellow 3rd gen member in tampa! i really dont think the tranny is gonna bolt up to a v-8. i built a firebird a few years ago with some spare parts. it had a v-6 originally. we put a 305 and a th350 in it. never finished restoreing it as it was a major project. i drive it around and the first thing i hated was the krappy 1 wheel peal rearend. some v-8 coilsprings woulda helped the frontend. lol. lots of work! modify this and that. it can be done though! whats your budget? jmo, it better to start off with an iroc or something similar. make sure it has a posi. see where im going? youll be replacing everything and when its done your gonna have a firebird still. it wont be a trans am, never be worth the money. now if you wanna go drag racing at sunshine,... lol.
