If that trans was behind the 2.8 it will have the 60 degree bellhousing pattern and won't bolt to the 90 degree pattern of the 305.

If you have that kind of cash - I dont care how well the 305 is "blueprinted" - do a 350 if going through the trouble of a swap! The difference is night and day! Better yet, if that $15k is drivetrain budget alone, do a LSx swap, and carb that if you like. But swapping a V8 is all the same - might as well swap in the cubes, because no blueprinting will replace them.

And as mentioned - the V6 tranny will NOT bolt up to any V8 - sorry.

Re: 1986 camaro engine swap need info

15k could build a nice ltx/lsx/ BBC swap with a 4l80 or t56 . The 305 was a decent stock motor but dude you could grab a stock replacement vette BBC for around 2k, or grab a bone yard vortec 6.0. If you spend 15 k on a 305 you will be kicking yourself later, I have 7k into my BBC, and I would like to see a non boosted 15k 305 keep up. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying when you build for power you should have at least a 4 inch bore block

I could be wrong but I believe the v6 trans uses the BOP bolt pattern, so a caddy motor like a north star or a 4.9, or Buick/old/Pontiac v8s should fit. Again could be wrong but I know caddy motors are popular swaps in fieros

v6 trans does not use the BOP bolt pattern. Naf and Camaronewbie had it correct, his trans will not bolt up to a v-8.

the buick/olds/pontiac v-8 had a bolt pattern similar to the chevy v-8 but it was never offered in a 700r4.

IIRC, all the caddy's with northstar and fiero's were front wheel drive which is a different ballgame. easier to find a rear wheel drive v-8 to swap in then mess with one of those.
