SBC Brackets fitting
I was wondering a question that i have. I recently starting swapping my stock l98 350 sbc to my Gen 1 383 stroker which i guess after starting the 383 needs standard 350 component brackets for the ac, power steering, alternator, and smog pump. The stock l98 brackets didnt fit. I am wondering if anyone here knows if all the components will fit into the other brackets or will i need to buy new alternator, ac, and smog pump? Thanks

Re: SBC Brackets fitting
They fit.
As long, that is, as whatever heads you're using, have the 69-up bolt holes. Which if they don't, you don't need to be using them anyway.
Why are you thinking they won't fit?

Well the old brackets from my l98 didnt fit so the motor builder is looking to get me new brackets. I get they will be standard chevy brackets or vortec 350 brackets. But what i wanted to know was if the component from the old brackets fit with the different brackets. But thanks they are on their way and ill check. Thanks

Not sure where this is all going...
THere's nothing different about L98 bolt holes, from any other small blocks between about 69 and the LT1. They're the same as the rest.
Why does this person think they won't fit? Does he merely want your brackets, at YUOUR expense from having to buy others to replace them? That's about what it sounds like.
The newer accessories won't fit in older brackets, or vice-versa; but the L98 brackets will fit on ANY SBC motor with the 69-up bolt holes. (exc LTx)

Re: SBC Brackets fitting
My 1992 brackets didnt fit on the cylinder heads they just didnt match up. I didnt want to drill out holes to make them fit so i contacted my engine builder and he said he will buy them and check to see if they fit. I thought chevy changed the bolt patterns and then went back to standard but i might be wrong.

what heads are you using? thats the only difference. really early heads dont have the right holes, but all the rest have the same holes, in the same place

Re: SBC Brackets fitting
Lets just put it this way either I had bad eye sight that day or they just didnt match up. But all i know is that i am not getting scammed. My engine builder is a good friend and his saling the brackets for cheap to me and my mechanic my best friends dad and I tried fitting the brackets but no luck. So i am posting a picture of the build i have and idk if someone can see if this are the heads from where they switched or move the holes on the brackets.

Re: SBC Brackets fitting
The hole Im pointing to in this picture has to be drilled and tapped on most heads if you use the Fcar serp brackets. The vet heads, ZZ4 and fast burn all have to have this hole tapped for F-bady brackets. Not a big deal 10-15 mins of work at most.
Thats the only hole that won't work for you unless u drill n tap.

Oh... The weird thing is by looking to that photo you have 2 holes on the right side on the right cylinder head as mine is 2 holes on the left side on the right cylinder. The thing is my builder said he will get them for me if they don't work I'll get my money back.

Re: SBC Brackets fitting
Just stick with the 92 serp setup. Its waay easier to deal with.
Your picture is very hard to see where the hole placements are.

Re: SBC Brackets fitting
Oh sorry about that but I would love to stay with that set of belts. That was one of the question that I think I was told it might not work. I wanted to see if the brackets ima get can use my component this way my pulleys stay the same but I will have to see. Thanks for the info.
