Re: Casting numbers..HELP!!

Welcome to TGO

The 010 blocks are a 4" bore. 302, 327 and 350 engines all used that block. The only way to know the displacement is to find out the stroke.

CMJ was used in 2 different castings. A 1980 305 and a 1974/75 350. Since you have a 4" bore casting, the engine is a 350 unless someone changed the stroke.

Re: Casting numbers..HELP!!

You'll only find a partial vin number on the engine in the same place as those stamped numbers are. They won't mean much since the engine probably isn't original any more and won't tell you exactly what it came from. You have a 74/75 4" bore block. After that, the only way to know what's in the engine is to strip it down for inspection.

Re: Casting numbers..HELP!!

3970010 is the most common 4" bore block with a 2 piece RMS. There's nothing else on the outside of the block that will tell you any more about what's inside.

Re: Casting numbers..HELP!!

A 327 and a 350 are THE SAME BLOCK. What you have is NEITHER right now, because the difference is, THE CRANK.

However, the 327 was discontinued after about 72; so since you have a 74ish block, it started out its life as a 350.

You could stick a 302, 327, or 350 crank in it, and it would become one of those things instead of merely a block with a 4" bore. Or even, a crank with more stroke still, and get a 383 or 396.
