what to do with my 305
hi all! this is my 92 camaro 305 tbi. edlebrock intake and headers. took all the emssions stuff off to clean it up. hears my question..i want more hp but need to keep it within a budget. i would like to buy a new crate engine but to much money. so maybe i can upgrade my 305 even more. new cam, lifters, heads, port old heads, switch to carb???? any suggestions on what else i can do with a 305? thanks

Re: what to do with my 305
Upgrading the 305 is a losing battle. Things like cam, head porting and other internal mods wind up being wasted money when you finally pitch the 305. If a crate is out of the budget, consider a junk yard motor. A high mile vortec 350 can be bought affordably and will be a major power upgrade. After you get it in, stash some money aside for a rebuild down the road.

Not really. 305's have a small bore that really chokes the airflow. A vortec head 350 with a decent camshaft, intake, and matched gears/converter will be a blast to drive, and run many times better than the mere 45 cubic inch increase would lead you to believe.

Then listen to what you were just told because Jim85IROC is exactly right! And don't worry, following his direction won't get you 400 horsepower. But it will give you what you asked for and give you a platform to build on down the road.
If you don't want to hear it, fine, then take about 400 lbs out of the car and that should satisfy you for now and save you some $ on parts and gas
