engine build and swap

Here it goes.I have a 1989 trans am.305 engine and trans out of 91 camaro still has tbi.I just bought a 85 350 that i want in the trans am to give it a little nut.My first question, can i use the intake off of the 91 engine(tbi) and just change all the electronics over to the 85 as they would fit on the 305?Since i gotta do some things to it,i figure ill do em up right.Right now, money is the problem.I will at the most, have 600 to spend on it,plus whatever small job money i can earn(40 at a time lol). So,I know i will need to buy subframe kit, gaskets, filters, head bolts.I suspect that will leave me closer to the 500-450 range,or less.i am not afraid to do all the work myself, but have never upgraded anything,so my question is,what would be the biggest bang for my buck,on this engine?I already have long tube headers on the 305.I have heard the 350 stock cam is wimpy?Maybe and aluminum intake.I basically wanna do a decent build(mains, camshaft bearings, connecting rod bearings).im gonna fashion up an engine stand and start pulling apart to see what valves/pistons/bearings look like.I was thinking about going .20 over on pistons to revive the old engine. My basic question is,what all can i upgrade, with out slacking on what really needs done like bearings. If you have any ideas, kits, prices, websites, let me know.I would like to hit 300 hp but i don't know if i will
Thank you for all of your time...
Paul

PUNCTUATION
Very hard to make sense of what you are asking without a gap.

You can use later intake on earlier heads but need to slot the 4 center bolt holes because bolts are at a different angle
Most of these questions should be in the general engine dept because they have little to do with problems about a engine swap

Alright, sorry about putting it in the wrong section. Definitely new to the forum. I will work on spacing, and is there a way to take this post down, where i can post in the right section?

Re: engine build and swap

Alright.Thank you. I'm pretty sure that i will just do all bearings, clean, rings, and a gasket kit, along with headers and aluminum intake. Anyone have a round about estimate on what hp that will give me? stock except for what is listed above.

Depends upon the cam.

Do you have the head casting #'s? Like the stock cam, most factory 350 heads are pretty lame, too.

Re: engine build and swap

yea, engine has stock cam, heads, pistons. Would a stage one cam help at all? Or do you know of a moderatly cheap kit including cam, valve springs and keepers? the valves look good, maybe a bit of lapping, and the cylinders were in good condition, with very little clearance between piston and cylinder.

Depends upon what a "stage one" cam is.

What heads does the 350 have? "Stock" tells us nothing.

Re: engine build and swap

Sorry for the lack of info, got head casting number, this is info a website had
462624(head casting id)
350
76-87
1.94/1.50 2.02/1.60
76cc Crack prone. The block casting id is 3970010. All the gaskets were original except the intake.I am thinking rings, rebuild kit,and cam. I don't plan on racing, just having a nice take off. And the stage one cam,was on ebay, but i did not see lift, duration or anything listed.I am basically looking for a decent sound, along with headers, and the best cam for between 700rpm to 5000. I don't wanna go any higher because i don't wanna start replacing broken pieces.

Re: engine build and swap

Is it worth even putting a cam in that is made to not hurt the stock springs?or will it be a waste?Any suggestions you have on cams, kits, and all that stuff i will appreciate greatly.I would like to keep stock springs, lock, but it should still be an improvement over this engines stock cam, right? Sorry about the hassle,I have never dealed with cams.I will be doing my first higher than stock performance build to put in my car.
