alright so im new to the sit and new to the third generation cars...i recently bought my first camaro, a 1989 RS with the 305 tbi...i def. love driving it but not a fan of the 305. my plan is to swap a 350 into it over the next few months (first engine swap ever for me, so ill prolly have alot of rookie questions). i was just hoping for maybe some opinions on maybe which 350 to put in there and should i keep the 700R4 tranny, rebuild it or go with something else. im looking to buy a block this week to rebuild so any pointers will be helpful im not trying to put 5 grand into the motor either, again just want some opinions. looking for decent horsepower and something that wont be to difficult to swap

Re: 350
This has been covered a hundred times, do a few hours reading. Short form: Start with SFCs, then headers and cat-back, rear gear ( or axle ) swap, with posi, then a Vortec 350, '96-up, or second choice is any '87-up block with the best non-swirl 305 heads you can find. Hopefully '081s, second choice is '416s. Keep the 700R-4. Do all that before deciding things like camshaft or torque converter.

Re: 350
The best block to start with would normally be a 350 vortec block from 96-2000 chevy trucks. These have the better vortec heads and a roller cam. With the vortec heads you would need a new intake. At this point now you can worry about a good cam for the engine. When you start upgrading like this as Attilla mentioned it would be a good idea to consider SubFrame Connectors (SFC). For overall better performance a good header and exhaust and gears would be a big help.
I realize Attilla said all this but for best results this is where you start and ask more questions later.
Attilla is very knowledgable so I try to listen to what he says and will be asking some of your questions once I get a Vortec 350 engine to start building.
