Engine wont start
Engine wont start
I have an 82 Z28 that came out with 305 CFI which was later swapped with a 305 carb crate motor.. well the motor got locked up so i bought it so i can put in my 350 sbc carb that i jus built... I have the motor in everything is set in time right.. plugs gapped .045... good battery.. new good starter.. good grounds... when i turn the key on i have power headlights, brake lights, ect.. i try to turn over motor to start it for the first time but it just cranks and cranks and wont start.. so i do some looking and appearently i have no spark at the distributor, wires, plugs.. i was told that i need to look at my ECM but idk what i am looking for or what to do..
How to I get spark to the HEI Distributor to get my engine to start?
This is my first Project with car, motor, and swap and would really like to get it running..
Please help??

Assuming your HEI is the large cap type with the coil in the cap, the only thing it needs is 12 volts to the "BATT" terminal. The factory used a fat red wire for that. Assuming the timing is correct (something I wouldn't assume given what I've read so far), and the spark plug wires go to the proper spark plug, and it has fuel, it should fire. How did you verify it doesn't have spark?
The ECM will be brain dead in a non-computer carb swap. If you used the stock '82 HEI, it should still start, but it won't run properly.
