Sorry another 305 to 350 TBI swap question. Re ECM.
Ok I've been doing a lot of research on this and wanted to get some opinions.
I have a 86 Trans Am that had a 305 carb in it. I found a 89 Camaro RS that I thought was a 305 TBI in it. I bought it and swapped the motor, Trans and full wiring harness into my TA. The guy I bought the car from was find of useless when it came to history of the car so he was no help.
Anyway, when I pulled the motor out and started to go through it I saw it was actually a fresh 350 4 bolt. So I put it in my TA.
I got the car running, but in open loop, before it warms up, it runs like crap. When the temp hits about 160-170 it runs perfect. Lots of power and very smooth. But before that temp it will barely run, stalls out etc.
I checked the temp sensor and it is reading fine and everything else looks good.
So I think the problem lies in the fuel delivery system namely the ECM and prom. I am thinking the ECM and prom are for the 305 and therefor when running in open loop, it is only getting enough fuel for a 305 not the 350 now under it. Does this sound right?
I was thinking about going to a junkyard and getting a TBI unit and ECM from a 88-89 Chevy truck since I know where some are. Should this solve my problem?
Thanks for any info

go to TBIchips.com he is a lot of help, and the new chip burn won't cost you very much.

Ok that did it. Went to a junkyard and got a TBI, ESC and ECM from a 89 Chevy truck with a 350 and put it into the Trans Am and it ran perfectly.

that's good to know. If you do plan to mod the TBI he has a lot of good information on his site.

Thanks for the info. I'm not planning on modding it. That's why I went with a TBI to begin with so it's not too much power since its a T-Top car. When I want to go fast I'll hop in another car that is super fast. I just want it to drive good and be reliable.
