flywheel help

hi, i have a 91 firebird and i'm replacing the tired out 305tbi that was in it with a '72 chevy 350 4 bolt main. i had previously done a t56 swap. i have the old engine out and was starting to put the clutch stuff on the new engine but the flywheel doesnt fit on. my question is can i just get any ol flywheel that'll fit the 350 or do i need a special one to work with the t56 trans? any help would be appreciated

Re: flywheel help

i would also like to mention something else. where the flywheel bolts to the crank on the 305 is just a regular evenly round flange but on the 350 there is a counter weight

Because your old engine has a late model 1 pce RMS crankshaft and your new one ,a old style 2 pce RMS crank
Because the balance arrangement was changed the crank bolt patterns where changed to prevent people installing the wrong balance flywheel / flexplate
Need to buy a flywheel to suit a 2 pce crank SBC

Re: flywheel help

The flywheel you need is the one for 83-85 V8 F-body. You'll find there are 2; one is for the low-perf LG4 sedan motor and is about 22 lbs (basically the same as the one for the extremely low-perf L03 you pulled out), the other is for the high-perf L69 and is about 16 lbs.

If you haven't changed the rear gear, you'll probably want the heavier one.

Re: flywheel help

No maybe not, depending on what T-56 it is; sorry, I missed that.

If it's a LS1 one, it will. If it's a LT1 one, you'll need a "special" "conversion" one such as the Centerforce 700107.

Re: flywheel help

Too much what?

It's kinda heavy... around 24 lbs if memory serves. Might be too much but prolly not, it'll be totally fine for you.

Yup that pretty much covers it... either ya want it, or ya don't... if you get lucky you might find a used one somewhere but I guess that depends on how much of a hurry you're in
